Thimbleberries Block of the Month

Even though I'm waaayyyyy behind on the 2009 Thimbleberries BOM, I'm still plugging along. I pulled it out a couple of days ago and finished up month 6 & 7. Each month is a 12" block and three 6" blocks. The colors are kind a washed out in this picture, the browns are much deeper and prettier in real life!

I really don't think I'll finish this up before 2009 is behind us, but one day, it will be finished! I really love Thimbleberries, but I didn't sign up for the 2010 club...since I have 2-3 years of club quilts unfinished, I figured it was time for a catch up year. :)

Christmas Wish BOM

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with your families! We had a very nice, quiet day, just lounging around at home.

The day after Christmas, I pulled out my Christmas Wish BOM blocks. I kept up with the monthly blocks, but didn't get around to setting them in time for Christmas. I came up with this setting and I'm pretty happy with it. I haven't decided on final borders yet...or maybe I'll just stop here and let the binding fabric finish it off.

One of our favorite Christmas decorations is this pyramid from Germany. We bought it when we were stationed there almost 15 years ago! Wow, time flies. Anyway, Robin wanted to see a picture of it, so I finally took one and also a little video so you could see it in action.

We went a couple of years without being able to set it up because we didn't have candles for it. We bought boxes and boxes of candles before leaving Germany, but eventually ran out. This year, I found an online source for them. The heat draft from the candles make it spin. Isn't it pretty? Sorry about the wacky blue reflection lines....

I'm enjoying a day at home sewing today...hopefully I'll have lots of pictures to share by the end of the day! :)

Christmas Delivery

I received a wonderful Christmas package from one of my BFF's Peggy. She always puts together the bestest packages and this year was no exception. Just look at the wonderful goodies.

Do you see that cute prim dollie? It's part of my gift from Peggy, but our dear friend Angela made her. She is just so special...I'll love her always. I'm going to call her Holly. You know, like Christmas Holly. :) Okay, maybe that's kind of corny, but I like it.

Thanks for all the goodies Peggy! :)

Back to our regularly scheduled programming....

I've been working on so many secret projects lately that I haven't shared many pictures with you. But everything is finished and wrapped and winging it's way to the lucky recipients. So finally, I have a chance to work on something I can share with you!

I finished this table topper tonight. If you remember this post from LAST YEAR I made two of these, one for my sister and one for me. I finished my sister's for her birthday in October '08, but mine sat in my "to do" basket all year. I was determined to finish it by Christmas and I did!! :) I love this pattern...it's a freebie from Patchalot Patterns.

Check out those Christmas tree lights! Or wait, is that a kitty under that tree?
Whiskers is keeping my box of Thimbleberries fabrics warm for me. Isn't she a helpful kitty? Zach is home for winter break...he needed some snuggle time with his favorite kitty. I'm not sure how much Smokey appreciated it. :)

That's all for now! I hope to be back more often with lots of quilty news!

Merry Christmas!

Michelle

crazy for yo-yo's!

Do you love yo-yo's? I love them and I'm always looking for new ideas to use them. So what's a girl to do with a gazillion green yo-yo's??

Make Christmas tree ornaments!

I found a similar idea online about 3-4 years ago, but I don't remember where it was so I can't give proper credit. But this is what I came up with...I think they are adorable! :)

I made 22 of these babies! That's 88 yo-yo's! I'm giving one to each of the volunteers at the thrift shop. I hope they like them!

Also, I went to a small cookie exchange this morning. These are a few of the cookies that I brought...simple santas made from nutter butter cookies. They were a big hit!

Off to accomplish more Christmas preparations...

Early Christmas Gift!

I've belonged to an online quilting group for 6+ years and I've become wonderful friends with a few of the ladies. We do swaps together, attend a yearly retreat, and basically just share our lives and love of quilting.

Recently, we signed up for a Quilting Sister Christmas exchange and these are the wonderful goodies that I received from Angela.

I absolutely love the mini patriotic quilt. She knows I love all things patriotic and it is perfect for me! Also in the package was a darling snowman ornament (snowmen are also my favorite!), a lavender pillow, and pink ribbon zipper pouch. Everything is just perfect Angela...I love it all!! Thanks so much!

Santa's helpers

I had two helpers tonight while working on "secret" projects. If you'll notice, they are in the same exact spot in each picture. As soon as Smokey jumped down, Whiskers jumped up and took his place. I think they were actually a little put out because I was using the table space...one of them usually sleeps on the table when I have the lamp on. It puts out a lot of heat!
Sorry I can't share more pictures of what I'm working on...but it's the season for surprises! :)

It's still Thanksgiving weekend...

Just a quick post to wish you a belated Happy Thanksgiving! :) I hope you all had a wonderful and blessed day celebrating with friends and family. I am so thankful that both my kids were able to come home for the holiday weekend. It went by quickly, but we had lots of fun and enjoyed spending time together.

It's a tradition to make these yummy turkey cookies....we've done them for over 10 years now.

The kids have tons of fun making them and they have hardly any sugar at all! :P

I've been getting a little sewing in here and there, not as much as I'd like! I really wanted to try the little tote from this blog. Isn't it just the cutest! Don't you just love Peanut the elephant too??

Last year I gave my mom this quilt for her birthday, so this year for her birthday, I made some matching pillows to go with it.

I have a few other things in the works, but they are secrets because it's almost Christmas time!! I love Christmas and can't wait for the fun and festivities!

I missed October completely!

Wow...I didn't post even once in October. Where did the month go?

I guess I'll try to sum it all up in a few pictures.

First off....it was my birthday on the 14th! I received a couple of wonderful gift packages from my friends Peggy and Robin.

Robin send me a fun woolfelt candle mat kit and two table top organizers. She also sent a couple fun halloween goodies.

Peggy sent me a patriotic wallhanging kit, Star Spangled quilt book, fabric, thread, a spidey mug, candy, and more!! :)

Also, just look at this beautiful embroidered pillow she made for me! I just absolutely love it! You have to click on the picture to see how beautiful it is!

I demo'd the fabric baskets at my local quilt group. So now I have a few baskets made for gifts this Christmas.

Finally, I made this quilt and gave it to my sister for her birthday. I think she was really happy with it!

My sister and her family came for a visit over halloween weekend. It was lots of fun to visit with everyone, carve pumpkins together and take her kids trick-or-treating!

Lots of stitching going on....

A couple months ago, I signed up for a new embroidery Block of the Month with Robin, Peggy, Liz, and Carolyn. The pattern is called "Berry Picking Party" by Crabapple Hill. The first kit arrived in all the craziness of summertime, but this week I finally finished up block 1 & 2!

It's much more "girly" and pink (!) than things I usually make, but I'm really pleased with it so far. I'm sure by the time it's finished, I'll have the perfect recipient for such a pretty, feminine quilt. :) I'm ready and waiting for block 3 to arrive!
I also finished block 9 of the Christmas Wish BOM. I'm not sure how I'll set the blocks and finish it off just yet...I don't think the scrappy setting that Gail recommends will work with the fabrics I used. I'm open to ideas! :)

Hope you all are having a wonderful, quilty week!

broken record....

Even though I sound like a broken record, I'll say it again! I can't believe how long it's been since I last posted! Why is time flying by so quickly??

Let's see, after my last post, I left with my son Zach to help him drive his car across country back to college. We stopped and visited with a couple friends along the way and all in all had a great trip.

Almost as soon as I returned, we packed up and camped over the long Labor Day weekend. We are really enjoying our new camper and hope to get a couple more trips in before the colder weather sets in.

I've been squeezing in a little embroidery here and there but nothing finished to show you just yet. Monday I actually turned on my machine and sewed! I put together a mini quilt top. I joined a Block of the Month Mini Club from Temecula Quilt Company. This one is from Lori Smith's Fat Quarter Quilts called Puzzling the Old Maid or something like that! The top measures approx 18" x 22" and those are 1" HST. Tiny!!
I even pieced the back by using up the last of the scraps from the quilt kit. I'm not sure which side I like best! :)

Now that fall seems to be approaching, I know I will be sewing more. I can feel it! :)

Giveaway Winner!

Congratulations to Cora!! She is the winner of the Abbey Bag. Thank you to everyone who stopped by my blog and commented. I've really enjoyed this blog and getting to know some great ladies out there in quilt land!

I'm off for a week long road trip...I've got a little bag all set with my "Busy Elves" embroidery, so I'm good to go! Hopefully, I'll have some more finished elves to share with you when I return.
Happy quilting!

Back to school....

It's that time again. Time for Zach to go back to school. I'm going to travel with him to help with the driving and then I'll fly home next weekend. We've been working the last couple of days packing his things and getting ready for the trip. I don't know if this will ever get easier....it's always hard to say goodbye! We had lots of fun this summer...whitewater rafting, camping, hiking, dirtbike riding (not me!). This picture was taken on a hike in the Sierra Nevada Mountains at a 9000' peak called "Inspiration Point."

Not much sewing going on the last few days, but I did make this mini fabric basket. I basically altered the pattern by Pink Peguin by making it smaller. It measures about 4" and is round in shape. I filled it with bite size candy bars and I'm giving it as a hostess gift for a casual dinner party we are attending tonight. I hope she likes it!! :)
I also wanted to thank everyone for entering my giveaway! I am amazed at the response. I'm sorry I did not respond to everyone. I'll pick the winner tonight when we get back from dinner!! Good luck!!
Hope you all have a fun, quilty weekend!

Christmas Wish BOM

I'm all caught up on this BOM! In case you don't know, this is a FREE BOM from Gail Pan Designs. Hurry over and get the patterns, 'cause it's ends next month and who knows how long she'll keep them online.

I did pretty well keeping up with the monthly stitcheries, but I couldn't decide on the border fabrics for a long time. Actually, I had the green picked out a couple months ago, but didn't decide on the red until last week and I must say, I'm very happy with it! It took very little time to cut the strips and sew them to the little embroidered blocks. ....Voila! I'm caught up! :)

A couple of these blocks were in the lost/missing-for-a-short-time bag that I told you about a couple of months ago! I still have a feeling of relief that these weren't lost forever! :) There is just one more month left on this BOM, I'm ready for it!

Happy Quilting!

p.s. Don't forget to enter my giveaway!
